Dear SOA High School Band Families,

I hope that this email finds you all safe and well! It goes without saying that the past 6 months have been terribly challenging for everyone. I have not sent out information about Band Camp because I have been waiting to see what happens over the summer in regards to COVID-19 numbers, and more importantly, waiting on directives from CCSD on the opening of school. As of today, there are still more questions than answers, but I do have some information for you concerning Band Camp.

Originally, SOA High School Band Camp was scheduled for August 3-7, 2020. However, with cases in SC still soaring into late-July, there is no way for us to have Band Camp at SOA prior to the proposed start of school on Sept. 8. If you have been scheduling your summer plans around that first week in August, thank you! But, the safety of our students remains my number one priority.

If feasible, I may look into the possibility of having virtual musical experiences for our students with professionals in the area prior to Sept. 8. I know that this in no way replaces a full week experience of Band Camp, but it could at least be something! More information on this will be forthcoming.

Charleston SOA Band Program is an amazing band program because of our talented students, supportive band boosters, and dedicated teachers. During this difficult time, we will all need to continue to work together under challenging circumstances to continue our tradition of excellence. I look forward to the time that we can all make music again together!

Musically Yours,

Kenneth D. Turner
